Reproduction is new life being created through a process called sex (or sexual intercourse). Sexual intercourse is when the penis is inserted into the vagina and the sperm swims to the egg to fertilise it.
Male and Female Sex Organs and parts:
Male:
The Penis- This is the main male reproductive organ. When it is inserted into the vagina, it ejaculates out semen which contains millions of sperm cells.
The Testes / The Testicles- Males have two testicles which both contain millions of sperm cells that are always being created.
Female:
The Vagina- The Vagina is where the penis is inserted to. The sperm cells swim to the egg to try and fertilise it through the vagina.
The Ovaries- Females have two ovaries that store eggs. During Sexual Intercourse, one random egg is released through the oviduct which will be fertilised by the sperm.
The Sperm Cells contain half of the final baby's DNA and the egg contains the other half.

Fertilisation and baby development
- During sex, sperm travels in the semen to the vagina.
- Fertilisation occurs when the sperm and the egg meet.
- The egg then becomes an embryo (a ball of cells) which then starts to develop into a foetus which will develop into a baby.
- In order for the baby to develop it needs food and oxygen which it gets from the surrounding muscle, the placenta and fed though the umbilical cord.
- Then, after nine months, a baby is born through a painful process.
Puberty
In order for the reproduction organs to be working properly, males and females need to go through a stage called puberty. Puberty is the growth from child to adult. People going through puberty are called adolescents.
